What is Residential Treatment for Teens at Griffith Centers?

Our residential treatment for teens is a community-based Residential Child Care Facility that provides comprehensive therapeutic, educational, medical, and case management services. Each teen receives individualized care from qualified professionals, including Master’s level mental health clinicians.

We serve youth navigating complex mental health needs and life experiences, including:

Trauma
Mood and conduct disorders
Autism
Attachment disorders
Department of Human Services or Youth Services involvement

A Continuum of Care with a Focus on Healing

Each young person entering our program receives a 7-day initial assessment by our multidisciplinary team (MDT). From there, we develop a comprehensive treatment plan that supports healing and growth across three critical areas:

  • Therapeutic Care
  • Residential/Daily Living Skills
  • Educational Recovery or Advancement

Family involvement is a central part of the process. We believe healing is strongest when it extends beyond the individual and into relationships and community.

Educational Support and Transitional Programming

Teens in our residential treatment program attend school on campus for credit recovery or to pursue a GED. A dedicated academic team supports each student’s progress and helps them work toward graduation.

As teens advance, they may transition into programs focused on building independence. These include opportunities to develop job readiness, explore housing options, and prepare for life beyond treatment.

A Wraparound Model That Extends Beyond Our Walls

Residential treatment for teens at Griffith Centers is designed to support long term success. In addition to care during residency, we provide continued support through community-based mental and behavioral health services, telehealth, and up to six months of follow-up care.

This approach helps teens and their families maintain progress and build stability after leaving the program.

Empowering Youth to Build a Better Future

Our residential program offers more than structure. It provides a place where teens can feel supported, build confidence, and develop skills for the future. Whether they are working through trauma, strengthening relationships, or catching up academically, each teen receives the guidance and care needed to move forward.

Life in Residential Treatment

Our residential treatment for teens is built on stability, safety, and growth. We offer several living environments designed to meet teens where they are and support their progress:

Rockies and Avalanche Lodges provide a higher level of structure and supervision

Prospect and Transitional Skills Program support increasing independence and community integration

Independent Living offers a more home-like setting focused on real-world readiness

Each setting helps teens develop emotional regulation, social skills, and daily living abilities while receiving consistent therapeutic support.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is residential treatment for teens?

Residential treatment for teens is a structured, therapeutic program where adolescents live in a safe, supportive environment while receiving ongoing mental health care, education, and daily living support. At Griffith Centers, teens receive individualized treatment from trained professionals to help them heal, build skills, and work toward stability and long-term success.

When should a teen go to residential treatment?

Residential treatment is typically recommended when a teen is experiencing significant emotional, behavioral, or mental health challenges that cannot be effectively supported through outpatient care alone. It may also be appropriate when there are safety concerns, disruptions in daily functioning, or involvement with child welfare or court systems.

How long do teens typically stay in treatment?

The length of stay in residential treatment varies based on each teen’s individual needs, progress, and treatment goals. Some teens may need a shorter period of stabilization, while others benefit from longer-term support to fully address emotional, academic, and family-related needs.

Does insurance cover residential treatment programs?

Insurance coverage for residential treatment programs depends on the individual plan and level of benefits. Coverage varies, so families are encouraged to check directly with their insurance provider and the treatment program to understand what services may be included and any required approvals.
