Project Wellness at Griffith Centers

Join us in our Farm-to-Table initiative as we grow our community garden to support the students and clients culinary curriculum and farm-to-table experience with Griffith’s Kitchen!

Griffith Centers Garden

Studies show that gardening has so many benefits for mental health, to include:
• Anxiety and stress reduction.
• Attention deficit recovery.
• Decreased depression.
• Enhanced memory retention.
• Improved happiness and life satisfaction.
• Mitigation of PTSD.
• Increased creativity, productivity and attention.
• Reduced effects of dementia.
• Enhanced self-esteem.

The farm-to-table concept offers us a meaningful and educational tool for our children to learn about gardening, engaging in a hands-on learning experience. The garden creates a positive learning environment that increases the children’s exploration and willingness to try new vegetables and fruits.

In preparation for our upcoming school year, we are excited to include the garden in our culinary program offered at J. Wilkins Opportunity School. Through our culinary program, our children learn through educational activities related to agriculture, food, health, and nutrition. And, of course, exploration of cooking, taste-testing, and sharing their creations!

Serving local foods is statistically more nutritious than non-local food, especially fruits or vegetables. With that, Griffith’s Kitchen and kitchen staff benefit from the garden, as we’ll be able to lean into providing fresh, more nutritious, homegrown vegetables in our meals offered on campus for staff and children.
